Dizziness and Balance Disorders

Dizziness is a common phenomenon and is one of the most common health problems experienced by adults. Accurate diagnosis is essential for effective management and treatment.

Symptoms can include:

a spinning or moving sensation in the head (vertigo), to a loss of balance.
unsteadiness.
giddiness.
light-headedness.

Neurosensory provides the broadest range of advanced balance testing procedures. Our highly trained Audiologists utilise sensitive testing equipment to accurately determine the location and cause of your dizziness or balance disorder.

Neurosensory evaluates all pathways, which work together, as part of the complex human balance system, and you will be guided through the comprehensive tests which examine these.

You will be required to lie on a comfortable bed and later, sit up in a chair, as you follow the instructions of the hearing health care professional.

What to Expect

The testing will take approximately 60-90 minutes, and allows us to record important information from your balance system onto a computer.

For the first part of the test, you will be asked to wear special goggles and look at lights, as they move or stay in different positions.

For the second part of the test, cool and warm air or water will be placed in your ear canal.

During the tests you will change your position, including sitting, lying flat on a bed, lying with your head turned to the side, and lying on your side. You should notify your clinician if you suffer any neck or back problems, as the test involves some maneuvering of your position, which may aggravate any back problems you may have.

Possible Side-Effects

Some patients may feel some dizziness or nausea during the testing. If you are feeling unwell at any time during the testing, you may ask the Audiologist to stop.
